Profession Introduction and Current Developments in Accounting

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., the Balıkesir Chamber of Certified Public Accountants and Financial Advisors organized a seminar titled "Profession Introduction and Current Developments in Accounting" for our department faculty members and students in the Accounting and Tax Department. Speakers at the event were Balıkesir Certified Public Accountants and Financial Advisors Chamber President CPA Eren ÇEKİÇ and Tesmer Board of Directors Vice President CPA Dr. Pelin ÖZCAN. The event was held with the participation of Department Head Dr. Nisa Kıymet ŞAHİN, Department Head Lecturer Fatma GİRGİN, Lecturer Özlem ERDİL, Lecturer İrem UZUN, CPA Ufuk KAYA, CPA Ecem SEVİ ÇETİN, and our department students. Our department quality student representative Zahidenur GÜMÜŞ and our graduate student Fatma SAYAN were also present at the event.

The seminar emphasized that rapid advances in information technologies have fundamentally transformed accounting. It was stated that with the digitalization process, e-accounting applications have become an indispensable necessity. It was noted that electronic document applications such as e-invoices, e-freelance receipts, e-producer receipts, e-delivery notes, e-expense slips, e-tickets, e-receipts, e-insurance policies, and e-ledgers have significantly reshaped accounting processes.

It was emphasized that e-accounting systems offer significant contributions to reducing the informal economy, preventing tax losses, providing rapid access to information, and streamlining audit processes. It was stated that both professionals and businesses need support in terms of training, awareness, and technological infrastructure to adapt to the new era. At the seminar, prospective Certified Public Accountants and Financial Advisors were informed about the steps they will face when entering the profession, the opportunities offered by the profession, and the potential challenges they may face.

After answering questions from participants, the seminar concluded with Department Head Dr. Nisa Kıymet ŞAHİN presenting certificates of appreciation to Balıkesir SMMMO President Eren ÇEKİÇ and CPA Dr. Pelin ÖZCAN for their valuable information.
