About the Program

HISTORY

Our department was one of the first departments opened at our school, which began teaching in 1976. Initially known as "ACCOUNTING," it was renamed "COMPUTERIZED ACCOUNTING AND TAX APPLICATIONS" in 1989, and then "ACCOUNTING" in 2002. Later, in 2010, with a change made within the scope of the IKMEP program, it gained academic department head status, and the department's name was changed to "ACCOUNTING AND TAX DEPARTMENT."

The department includes the Accounting and Tax Applications Program, which offers both daytime and evening education.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES/EMPLOYMENT AREAS

Graduates of the Accounting and Tax Department can work in the accounting and/or finance departments of public or private institutions, as well as as accounting staff in Certified Public Accountants' and Certified Public Accountants' offices. Additionally, employment opportunities in the public sector are available through public personnel recruitment exams.

In addition, graduates of the department can open their own offices after completing their license in the relevant field and receiving the title of "Certified Public Accountant" provided that they complete the necessary internship and pass the exams.

Summer internships help students in this program prepare for the professional world. Students can also receive an Entrepreneurship Certificate from KOSGEB upon successful completion of the Entrepreneurship course in the program.

DEGREE EARNED

Students who successfully complete this program will receive an Associate Degree in Accounting and Tax Applications. 

ACCEPTING AND REGISTRATION CONDITIONS

Admission to the Balıkesir University Accounting and Tax Applications Program is based on a centralized exam administered by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Admission is based on the TYT score and the department offers a two-year associate degree program. 

Qualification Conditions and Rules

In order for a student to graduate from the Accounting and Tax Applications program, he/she must have a general grade point average (transcript) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, pass the compulsory courses in the education-training program, be successful in other studies prescribed in the program, complete a total credit load of 120 ECTS, and have been approved for graduation by the relevant board of directors.

EXAMS, ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

All students must register for classes at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the classes to be eligible for the final exam. Students will take at least one midterm exam (midterm) and one final exam (final) for each course. All exams are graded out of 100, with the midterm accounting for 40% and the final exam accounting for 60%. A minimum score of 50 on the final exam, with an average of 45, is required. Passing grades are converted to letter grades according to the table. Students who receive a letter grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC in a course are considered successful. DC and DD are conditional passing grades. Courses that receive a letter grade of FF and are considered failed are repeated in the first semester they are offered.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE TRANSFERRED BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS

The procedures and principles to be followed in horizontal transfers between diploma programs within Balıkesir Vocational School or to equivalent diploma programs in other higher education institutions are regulated in the "Balıkesir University Directive on the Principles of Horizontal Transfer within and Between Institutions" ( https://kms.kaysis.gov.tr/Home/Goster/61834 ).

Students wishing to transfer using the central placement base score (Additional Article 1) must have a central placement score (YKS) in the year they enrolled equal to or higher than the base score of the programs they wish to transfer to at our University. Furthermore, they must not have previously availed themselves of this right. Procedures and principles regarding these procedures are outlined on the relevant website.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE TRANSFERRED VERTICALLY FROM THE DEPARTMENT

Graduates who wish to continue their education have the opportunity to transfer to four-year undergraduate programs at various universities, depending on their scores and quota status in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center.
